A WORLD OF BLUE

Presentation: Angewandte RESEARCH WEEK (Oct 19-21, 2021)

We cordially invite you to the Angewandte Research Week 2021 at the Prateratelier of the Zentrum Fokus Forschung. The research week is an opportunity offered for researchers in the institutional environment of the Angewandte to present research projects and activities into a context of dialogue and to foster further exchange.

17 colleagues from research projects, scientific doctoral programmes and the artistic research PhD programme situated at the University of Applied Arts Vienna will share their research experience and (preliminary) outcomes from Oct. 19 – 21 in the garden of the Zentrum Fokus Forschung. After the specific project presentations, there will be a discussion round in the studio of the Research Atelier, in which the persons of the previously held presentations as well as the respondents (Simon Roloff, Basak Senova and Christina Wessely) take part.

Wednesday, October 20, 2021, 15:15 – 15:45, Karin Altmann:

A WORLD OF BLUE – DIALOGUES IN INDIGO
Arts-based research on the potentials of natural indigo dyeing

If we want to face our huge global challenges, it’s important to open up spaces for joint thinking and acting that enable to meet and cooperate with people based on curiosity, interest and solidarity as well as a mindful respect for living material, our environment and society.

Following this approach, I would like to look at the different levels of artistic research within the project, asking:

What is the impact of global challenges such as climate change, exploitation of natural resources and migration on one’s own thinking and acting?

How can textile processes and artistic dialogues be used to create a space for cultural, social and ecological responsibility? And how can we make a change?

Can the past provide us with a useful guide to the future?
