Transforming Persicaria tinctoria leaves into balls

Autumn arrived yesterday and now our rich indigo harvest yields have to be processed quickly. We pounded the leaves in a wooden mortar to reduce the mass of leaf-matter and to create a concentration and finally rolled the crushed leaves into small balls to allow them to dry quickly and evenly. By means of this process, the indigo leaves can be kept and stored for a long time.
